Quilt Fabric Charts – How Many Squares?

We often have various cuts of fabric we want to use but don’t know if we have enough for our project. Enter the cut square size and see how many squares you can get from 10″ squares (layer cakes), Fat Eighths, Fat Quarters, Half Yard and yard cuts. If the shape you need to cut is not a square, enter the smallest square that will contain your shape.

Example: This applique heart is 3″ x 4.5″. Enter 4.5 in the calculator below.

The results show how many hearts you can cut from each of the different fabric sizes.

The Circles

I made The Circle Quilt using mostly scraps. I cut 3″ circles using AccuQuilt Die #55012 that has 3 circle sizes. You could also use a template to cut the circles. I had a mixture of scraps so I used the calculator with a 3″ square representing the 3″ cut circles I needed.

Below is another circle quilt with full, downloadable instructions. You need to view this video on YouTube to download the instructions which can be found in the description below the video.

AccuQuilt Users – you already know that many, if not most,  of the dies require a square or rectangular shape piece of fabric to place on the die for cutting. Just measure your die from blade to blade, add a little extra for cutting and use the largest measurement for this calculator.
